Our lead engineer, Abhilash Ramachandran, presented Hydromars technology at the conference Current and Future Ways to Closed Life Support Systems, curated and organized by the MELiSSA Consortium. His abstract was selected through a competitive review process, providing the opportunity to showcase Hydromars’ innovative approach to sustainable life support systems.

The conference, held in Granada, Spain, on 7–9 October 2025, focused on collaboration between researchers, engineers, and organizations across public and private sectors, covering key domains such as air, water, waste recycling, food production, modeling, and circular systems.

There was no system similar to Hydromars presented or mentioned at the conference.

Certain closely related systems were, however, presented:

  • Urine recovery using microbial activities
  • University/research lab prototypes dealing with microbial or bio-electrochemical conversion of urine or synthetic waste streams into fertilizers or useful compounds
  • Presentation of membrane research photocatalysis with overlapping themes—similar in function or goal, but differing in implementation, scale, and modularity

The conference also provided valuable insights and opportunities for future dialogue with representatives from other international space programs.
